green smoothie

Sometime last year I decided to try the whole green juice fad that was going around and I drank the Woolies and KAUAI versions and found that I actually like it, well the ones without celery (yuck!). So I decided to try and make one at home, I wanted one that would have a lot of green veggies because I struggle with eating the required amount of veggies so I figured if I drank them it would serve the same purpose. Through trial and error, I ended up with a mix that tasted good. Below are the ingredients that I include:

  • Apples x3
  • Banana x2
  • Cucumber – half of a log cucumber
  • Spinach – half a bag bought from Woolies
  • Broccoli – 1 whole broccoli
  • Lime – one and a half
  • Water – 500ml/750ml depending on the consistency you want and the size of your batch

Try not to substitute the lime with lemon, it won’t taste the same. Lime adds a specific zing. I also like to add other different green veggies. I usually make quite a huge batch and then pour it into glass jars and consume two a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. It leaves me full for about two and a half hours and my trips to the loo are a breeze. I have joined the fad!
